Best Reads of 2017!📚

Throne of Glass / Crown of Midnight / The Assassin’s Blade Sarah J. Maas

I am yet to continue with the Throne of Glass series but reading TOG and COM was a great way to kick off the year! The Assassin’s Blade went above and beyond my expectations. They were all 5 star reads and I really should continue with the series…

Thirteen Reasons Why Jay Asher

I picked this book up so I could read it before the Netflix series was released and I absolutely loved it! It brought out all of my emotions and discusses such an important topic, and the way it was written – with Hannah’s tapes and Clay’s narrative – amazing!

City of Glass / Clockwork Angel Cassandra Clare

City of Glass was a reread, which I loved just as much (if not more) than when I first read it years ago. Probably my favourite Mortal Instruments book yet, but I really need to get onto the last half of the series. Everyone has been telling me to read Clockwork Angel for years, and 2017 was the year it finally happened! It was seriously great and, yet again, I need to finish the series.

The Girl’s Guide to Summer (I see London, I see France) Sarah Mlynowski

This book was a perfect travel book, with beautiful descriptions, a little romance and a great friendship aspect. I loved travelling with our main characters and it’s made me even more excited to travel! And more determined to find a job to help fund my imaginary trip…

Why I Loathe Sterling Lane Ingrid Paulson

I can’t even really pinpoint exactly why I loved this book so much – I think it was largely the characters and the complex familial relationships. Sterling Lane is just dreamy and seeing his relationship develop with Harper was lovely.

Nemesis Brendan Reichs

My love for this book was definitely unexpected – it was a great sci-fi novel with a unique and complex storyline and interesting characters. Min and Noah were great protagonists and I absolutely can’t wait for the next book!

Simon vs. The Homosapiens Agenda Becky Albertalli

I read this with some friends from uni and I don’t think any of us expected to love it as much as we did. The relationships and dynamics between Simon and his friends and family were individual to the characters and realistic. It was a super fun and quick read – can’t wait for the movie!

Top Ten Katie Cotugno

This was another book I didn’t expect to love so much and actually found quite hard to get into at first. However I do love a story that spans over several years of a character’s life, and this happened with both of our main characters in this book. Seeing their history and complicated relationship really helps you connect to them and their lives. It was fab!

The Hate U Give Angie Thomas

So by now everyone has heard of/read/loved/recommended this book – and with great reason. This book approaches topics like racism and police brutality, which are rarely seen in novels (especially in YA), and I love that it is helping to bring awareness to the issues raised. It made me angry and heartbroken and hopeful and everyone needs to read it!

The Foxhole Court Nora Sakavic

I had been anticipating this novel for years but never got round to picking it up. I read the first few chapters and was obsessed. I’ve read the whole All For The Game series in the past week and I think it might be my all-time favourite series ever. I never thought I could love a book about gangsters and fictional sport so much. Seriously incredible!!

The Outsiders S. E. Hinton

I was definitely not expecting to think as highly of this book as I did! The characters are all so adorable and I loved reading from a younger protagonist (unusual for me). This book is so unique and I’m amazed it was written when the author was only 17 years old! A masterpiece.
