Sadly, May was a very slow reading month. It’s exam season and revision had to be my main priority, although I’ve lost count of how may times I said “It’s time for a break – I know, I’ll read!” Unfortunately, it’s going to be a similar sort of thing in June, but once my last exam is over on the 27th, I’m back to being the dedicated, avid reader that I am. For now, I’ll be reading as much as I can, without letting (or trying not to let) myself get too distracted by the wonderful books on TBR.
When We Collided by Emery Lord
At first, I wasn’t sure what to think of this book. Yes, it was a well-written YA contemporary with fairly interesting characters, but at the beginning, it lacked the spark that gets me hooked. Little did I know that a few chapters later, I would have become fully invested into Vivi and Jonah’s relationship. The mental-health aspect was so well-written and eye-opening. 4/5 stars
The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury
Again, it took quite a while for me to get into this book. It was quite confusing to be thrown into a new, fictional world with no idea what is really going on. But once I had it figured out, I was fascinated with how Twylla and her poisonous touch would affect those around her (especially Lief, my favourite character by far). There were so many twist and turns with this book! Once you’re hooked, you won’t be able to put it down. 4/5 Stars
City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare
City of Bones was actually a reread for me. I first read this book a couple of years ago, and it quickly became one of my favourites – I would even go as far to say that it was the book that made me obsessed with the fantasy genre. The characters are beautifully-written, the storyline is unlike anything I have read since and the strange but wonderful world of a demon-infested New York is one I love to read about. The humor in this novel is one of my favourite parts, as well as being able to read about Malec’s first time meeting! 5/5 Stars
Reviews for all of these book will be up within the next couple of weeks!
My June TBR list is very uncertain – I have recently purchased a few new books I can’t wait to start, but also want to continue The Mortal Instruments series and possibly even start to read The Infernal Devices. So many books to choose from!
